Berkshire County Jail also known as the House of Corrections is a high security jail facility at located 467 Cheshire Road, Pittsfield, Massachusetts and is operated by the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department under a Charter issued by the State of Massachusetts. The jail houses over 400 male and female pre-trial-inmates arrested by the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police, local police departments, Massachusetts state inmates, probation violators, the U.S. Marshal’s Service and those awaiting transfer to a Massachusetts Department of Corrections prison or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Berkshire County Jail Visiting and Mail
The Jail visitation schedule is based on the inmate’s housing It is suggested that those wishing to visit an inmate in custody contact review the House of Correction website or contact the control center at 413-443-7220 to confirm visiting hours and visiting policies.
Inmates at the are allowed up to three one-hour visits per week. Inmates may have up to 2 adult and 2 minor visitors at a time. All visitors must be on a pre-approved visitors list. Each inmate is allowed up to five people on that list. All adult visitors must produce a valid state photo identification. Visitors under age 17 must be accompanied by an adult and must produce a valid state photo I.D. or long-form birth certificate.
Incoming inmate mail must contain the sender’s complete name and address. All magazines and books must be sent by an authorized distributor. All incoming mail is opened and checked for contraband. Mail sent to an offender must have the inmate’s name written on the envelope, with a return address.
Legal documents are opened in the presence of the inmate. Inmates may subscribe to any publication that does not jeopardize or undermine the security and good order of the institution. Inmate mail should be addressed with an inmate’s name to 467 Cheshire Road, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
